CASTELNOU: NEW GUIDED VISIT

New to Le Dauphin: « Castelnou » a guided visit for all the family organised by Mika.

This year we invite you to join us on a trip to Castelnou which includes a visit to the chateau, wine and product tasting and the picturesque local market…….A visit which incorporates history with charm.

Classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Castelnou, a village tucked away in the foothills of the Pyrénées-Orientales, is one of the ‘gems’ of our region, certainly not to be missed by those who love unusual places. Hidden at the heart of our department, this attractive village will charm you from your first entry between two pretty stone towers and as you walk along the streets as did the people of medieval times.

Castelnou: visit to the chateau

The first stop during this family excursion is a visit to the 10th century medieval castle.

The hour long guided tour through this site, unique in its kind, will immerse you into a period of history of great significance to the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Tasting of wines and local products

Your visit to the castle will conclude at the top in a private room where you will be invited to taste wines and other local produce. There is also an opportunity to visit the castle’s botanical trail before going to your picnic spot with a magnificent view over the roofs of Castelnou and the plain of Les Aspres.

marché castelnou

Village walk and the local market

Having enjoyed a time for making new friends whilst enjoying your picnic, you will head off for your visit around this little village to discover its history but not only that….. Castelnou is unusual in that there are several home artisans who will be happy to meet you and welcome you into their home workshop to find out about their creative work. This will leave you with lasting memories before the final stage of the excursion, the local market which is located just at the foot of the village next to the church.

The market is unusual in that it allows you to get a real flavour of catalan culture as you can meet local producers, find out about original products typical of the area which are often, home produced.

Beware: There is a chance you won’t want to leave! 🙂

Find out more about our other guided walks: Coastal walk and the Tour de la Massane. We want to share our passion for our area with you.
